The practical answer

Buyer output: a practical operating map and a prioritised transition checklist.

Follow a complete operating cycle

Trace an order or service from enquiry to delivery, invoicing and collection. Identify who performs each task and what systems support it. The exercise often reveals the practical knowledge a buyer needs for a smooth handover.

Map capacity and responsibilities

Review staffing, equipment availability, supplier arrangements and day-to-day management. Clarify which resources are included in the sale and which depend on separate agreements. Compare the operating model with the level of involvement you intend to provide as owner.

Turn the review into a handover plan

Prioritise access, training and responsibilities required at completion. Separate improvements that can wait from tasks needed to maintain service. A useful operating assessment becomes a plan the buyer and continuing team can use immediately, rather than a long list without owners.

Your working checklist

  1. Trace an order to collection
  2. Map key resources
  3. Check included operating assets
  4. Identify knowledge to transfer
  5. Assign day-one responsibilities

Use the guide with a live opportunity

For a buyer, record the listing reference and the questions that could change your decision. For an owner, use the checklist to prepare a consistent response and identify which information is suitable for public presentation. Share identifying or sensitive material only through an agreed confidential process.
