UAE M&A / BUYER PROCESS

Buying a UAE business as an owner-operator

An owner-operator acquisition combines a job, a management role and an investment of capital; assess each part separately.

The practical answer

Buyer output: a realistic weekly role, a replacement-pay assumption and a transition learning plan.

Describe the working week you are buying

Ask about opening hours, scheduling, purchasing, sales, administration and customer service. Match those tasks with your skills and available time. A business that fits your capital budget can still require a working pattern that does not fit your objectives.

Separate compensation from investment cash

Identify a reasonable cost for the work you will perform, even if you do not initially draw that amount. Compare the remaining cash with capital invested. This makes it easier to distinguish a good operating livelihood from the separate return on owning the business.

Plan a learning period with the seller

Agree which systems, relationships and routines need demonstration. Record training responsibilities and the time available for support. Keep a transition budget so you can maintain operating standards while learning the business and putting your own management routines in place.

Your working checklist

  1. Map daily owner tasks
  2. Check required skills
  3. Separate owner pay from capital return
  4. Agree practical training
  5. Budget transition support
